JAN 06, 2004 (newstodate): Icelandair Cargo reports prepared to meet the latest US legislation on air cargo security by the end of the grace period, March 5, 2004.
-We are currently seeking the best IT solution to be able to take in H-AWB and M-AWB information to be aggregated into a list conveyed eletronically to the US authorities fout hours ahead of scheduled landing time, says Petur J Eiriksson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-While we have not yet made our final decision on the system I'm convinced that we will have no problems in meeting the demands. And for the forwarders, who are to report the data to us, the job will not be overly demanding either, as they probably already forward the information electronically, he says.
-On the other hand this is just one more burden on the air cargo industry, inevitably entailing additional cost, but we consider it just another fact of life in this business, he says.
