JAN 21, 2004 (newstodate): Pending final solution to issues of traffic rights, Danish carrier DAT plans to extend its current route between Copenhagen and Kaliningrad to start and end at Billund Airport.
-The start is planned for March 28, but quite recently Pulkovo on the Russian side has raised the issue of traffic rights, taking the initial stand that the planned extension results in an entirely new route requiring another round of negotiations and a new agreement, says a DAT spokesman.
DAT is, however, optimistic that the Russian side will be convinced that the new routing is really only an extension in Denmark and can be operated on the basis of existing agreements between the parties.
Meetings between the two sides will be held in Denmark on February 11.
DAT plans to operate its Beechcraft 1900D, allowing for 18 passengers, but with limited cargo capacity.
DAT and Polish LOT are currently the only non-Russian operators at Kaliningrad Airport after SAS cancelled its route from Copenhagen to Kaliningrad in 2001 after eight years of operations.
