JAN 27, 2004 (newstodate): From this summer, Copenhagen Airport will have two new services to the Middle East, as SAS' budget airline snowflake starts weekly Boeing 737 operations to Beirut from March 28, and MEA start twice-weekly Airbus A330 services to Beirut from June 1.
-We are seeing a strong increase in passenger volumes from Copenhagen to the Middle East, increasing by 20 percent to 119.602 passengers in 2003, says Camilla Kjaersgaard, Copenhagen Airport press officer.
The increased demand for services from Copenhagen to the Middle East is reflected in IATA's air cargo statistics as well.
In 2003, Scandinavia generated a total of 10,176 tonnes of air cargo to the Middle East.
In Denmark, IATA registered a 22.5 percent increase, to 3,021 tonnes, in Sweden IATA carriers lifted 5,012 tonnes, up 6.1 percent, and in Norway IATA-carriers generated a total of 2,143 tonnes, an increase by 25.9 percent.
In addition to the new services, Copenhagen Airport also offers services to Tehran by Iran Air and Kish Airlines, and to Tel Aviv and Eilat by Arkia Airlines
