JAN 20, 2004 (newstodate): A cautious optimism marks the entry into 2004, says a Norwegian freight forwarder.
-2003 was practically unchanged against the year before, with little progress in the market, says Arne Engebrethsen, Nor-Cargo managing director.
-Thanks to an improving exchange rate of the Norwegian Krone against the US dollar we do see ground for optimism in 2004, especially within air cargo segments including pharmaceuticals and electronics, he says.
Like almost all Norwegian forwarding companies, Nor-Cargo Airfreight is engaged in the dominating exports of salmon, but not among the top-three companies and with an even spread of business within several segments.
Nor-Cargo with a total of 45 staff at Oslo, Stavanger and Bergen is also BAX Global exclusive agent in the Norwegian market.
-We are happy to see abundant capacity and historically low cargo rates in the Norwegian market, so although we follow with interest the current plans for new freighter routes to serve the market, we do not actually see any business case for them, says Arne Engebrethsen.
