JAN 09, 2004 (newstodate): The forthightly freighter service from Billund Airport, Denmark, to Kabul will be continued through 2004.
-Already on January 17, a chartered IL-76 with 45 tonnes of cargo will leave for Kabul, and the next flight, planned for January 31, will be an AN-124, says Jorgen Jessen, Mahe Freight, who is reponsible for the operations.
Since autumn 2002 Mahe Freight has been operating the service, which remains the only commercial cargo airlift from Europe to Afghanistan.
The AN-124 flight on January 31, operated by either Antonov or Volga-Dnepr, will take a maximum of 80-90 tonnes of cargo, restricted by the runway conditions at Kabul Airport, and more than 55 tonnes have already been booked, according to Mr Jessen.
