JAN 12, 2004 (newstodate): Well ahead of the deadline for implementation of the new US demands on air cargo security by March 5, 2004, BAX Global is already in full compliance.
-Rather than running the risk of seeing our shipments put on hold at an airport cargo terminal in wait for clearance, BAX Global is transmitting all required shipments details directly to US Customs for clearance, before the shipments actually leave our terminal, says Erik Andersen, BAX Global Denmark.
-Once the US Customs clearance has been obtained, which usually follows within only one to two hours, the data will be available for the carrier as well, and the shipments can then leave our terminal and be brought to the airline's port of departure within any risk of being put on hold, he says.
-This procedure has been in effect for some time already, and our customers have thus already gained experience in meeting the demands of the new US legislation that does require all details and information to be meticulously correct in order to ensure a smooth immigration into US territory, says Mr Andersen.
According to Mr Andersen, industry customer generally accept the new requirements in full understanding of the increasing need for enhanced security, even accepting the workloads that inevably follow in the process
