JAN 29, 2004 (newstodate): ARINC has completed implementation of a new type of digital data link network to improve air-ground communications in the Maastricht Upper Air Center in Northern Europe.
ARINC deployed the new network in just 90 days, launching 12 ground stations across Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
ARINC also provided a network test facility to EUROCONTROL in France.
On December 18, 2003 the ARINC network supported a successful Supplemental Type Certification flight by a SAS B737 using Rockwell Collins avionics.
ARINC engineers provided real-time monitoring and troubleshooting in the aircraft and on the ground to ensure the service performed flawlessly.
The SAS B737, the Rockwell Collins avionics, the EUROCONTROL ground network, and the ARINC ATN/VDL Mode 2 network all performed superbly.
Several other airlines are also planning to equip parts of their aircraft fleet with the new capability.
