JAN 06, 2004 (newstodate): Finland remains an attractive market for Aeroflot Cargo, but limited capacity on the flights between Moscow and Helsinki keeps the company low in business.
-Since the introduction of Aeroflot's Airbus A319 aircraft on the route from October 26, 2003, cargo load factors have dropped by more than 50 percent as a fully-booked aircraft has practically no cargo capacity left, says Alexander Piven, Aeroflot Finland general manager.
Air cargo trucking is also no venue due to lengthy and complicated border control and security procedures, he says.
According to industry sources Aeroflot has earlier mulled plans for a DC-10 freighter service between Moscow and Helsinki to serve especially the air cargo market between Finland and the Far East, China, but no accord between Finland and Russia has yet been reached on this project that would obviously be in direct competition to Finnair Cargo's extensive operations on these segments.
