SEP 25, 2003 (newstodate): The BIG thing for SWISS WorldCargo about the SWISS membership of the oneworld alliance is, that nothing is really changed, says a senior company official.
-The oneworld alliance is bacilally passenger-driven, so SWISS WorldCargo will retain its branding and image in the market, and is free to pursue its current strategies and generate reveneue for the airline, says Bernd Maresch, SWISS WorldCargo communications manager.
-We already have bi-lateral agreements with members of the alliance, as with American Airlines, but we will of course talk to the alliance parterns to seek any potentials for cooperation, he says.
-We like to remain small as a niche carrier, and do not go after big-volume shipments. But we already cooperate with e.g. Korean Air as to freighter business, and will continue to do so in the future. One new venture with Korean will be cooperation on their freighter services into Milan and Brussels, and we also cooperate with JAL concerning their freighter service from Tykyo to Zurich, he says.
According to Mr Maresch, the market may well expect a new project "soon" entailing another freighter service into Zurich with SWISS Worldcargo cooperation.
