SEP 15, 2003 (newstodate): Denmark and Norway have become difficult markets for SWISS WorldCargo due to inadequate uplift capacity.
The Scandinavian countries are served by small Embraer aircraft with little lower deck cargo capacity, and during the summer the quality has been compromised by frequent off-loading of even small shipments, according to the airline's cargo GSA in Scandinavia, ATS.
-As Zurich is some 30 hours trucking time from Denmark, and even longer from Norway and Sweden, even this alternative is not too attractive either, says Goran Wenker, ATS manager sales.
-The Swedish market has dropped, too, after SWISS ceased its Airbus-operations to Stockholm. But the potential is still here, especially in the express parcel segment and boosted by SWISS' sustained high image in the market, he says.
-We are seeking niches in the market to develop our marketing and sales of SWISS WorldCargo's products, but it is admittedly difficult to make long-term strategic plans as matters stand now, says Wenker.
According to Goran Wenker, ATS plans to maintain its presence, since early summer, in Denmark and Norway although it may require a set-up different from the current with own offices in Copenhagen and Oslo.
ATS is also actively seeking new airline clients to expand the current portfolio including, in addition to SWISS WorldCargo, My Travel and novair.
