SEP 12, 2003 (newstodate): We need to know if there is a discrepancy between the wording of the EU regulations on airport security, and the Danish CAA's interpretation of them, says a spokesman for the major Danish off-airline cargo handling provider, Haugsted.
A debate is raging on the issue of off-airport cargo handling that may not be in accordance with the EU regulations as claimed by a Danish CAA chief inspector.
-A terminological confusion may be at stake as well, as we are a security-certified "regulated agent" and as such entitled to provide 3rd party cargo handling. Whether we are a "cargo handling agent" or a "regulated agent" is no big deal for us - we just need to know, says Soren Holsbo, Haugsted AirCargo Trucking manager.
To stress the confusion Holsbo points to the fact that Danish CAA's own sebsite lists off-airport TNT as a "cargo handling company".
-Our company has duly filed its security declation with the CAA and is, as regulated agent, able to operate under the known-shipper concept. We have any intentions of adhering to regulations and directives, we only need to know what applies, Holsbo says.
Haugsted will now contact the Danish CAA for a detailed review of all pertinent issues.
