SEP 10, 2003 (newstodate): According to the EU directives Nos 2320 and 622 on airport safety, only service providers established within airport borders may be termed "cargo handling agent".
Under this definition, off-airport service providers are only considered "freight forwarders", who cannot be authorized to deliver air cargo exports ready for carriage by airlines.
-This comes as a surprise to us, admits Henrik Irmov, Danish service and trucking provider Haugsted Air Cargo Trucking operations manager, attending today's conference at Billund Airport on airport security regulations .
Irmov says Haugsted had so far based its business on the aqssumption that by introducing security and control measures the company would be able to act in the role of handling company.
The only venue for Haugsted and similar service providers will be to move their activities within airport borders
