SEP 18, 2003 (newstodate): Lithuanian airport Kaunas, that is the country's largest cargo airport, is seeing its volumes down and must look for other business.
-Over the last few years, the airport has generated about 10,000 tonnes of cargo annually, mainly transit cargo destined for Russia, says Kestutis Cucenas, Kaunas Airport deputy director.
-The political and economic situation in Russia has, however, improved, so the need for transiting Russian air cargo imports at Kaunas has decreased, he says.
Kaunas Airport is hoping to attract foreign airlines to the airport, especially low-price operators and is reportedly in talks with Ryanair over a new route between Lithuania and London.
Lithuanian Airlines' subsidiary, Air Lithuania is currently the only scheduled operator at Kaunas Airport.
