SEP 30, 2003 (newstodate): A meeting last week between the Danish CAA and trucking company Haugsted Aircargo Trucking has clarified the situation concerning the company's role in the industry.
-As a certified freight forwarder, Haugsted is fully capable of accepting shipments on behalf of its airline customers for trucking into continental airports, says Jessi Johnsen, Danish CAA chief inspector Security.
-Once the trucks arrive at the airport destination, the shipments are then to be handled by the cargo handling agent according to the national regulations applicable. As Haugsted is a known shipper the cargo must be screened proportionately before being considered ready-for-carriage, she says.
-The point remains that in this capacity Haugsted can perform as any other certified freight forwarder, no more and no less. What we have objected against is the vague notion that Haugsted can be considered a cargo handling agent, which has now been proved to be a false assumption.
-Generally speaking, the Danish freight forwarders are law-abiding and security-conscious people, and Haugsted is no exception to this, Johnsen says.
-The main object is and remains to keep records clean and avoid any blurring of roles and distinctions in the industry, says Jessi Johnsen.
