SEP 30, 2003 (newstodate): Following on the launch on September 7 of the new route between Copenhagen and Kaliningrad, Danish regional airline DAT is currently working on adding a cargo product to the route as well.
-We are confident that there is a potential in air cargo to and from Kaliningrad, says Ole Christiansen, DAT manager sales & operations, charter and cargo.
DAT is currently operating three times weekly, but a fourth weekly departure will be added from October 26.
-One flight is operated with ATR aircraft, the other with Beech 1900 aircraft. Cargo capacity is of course limited, but we have seen a demand in the market for smaller shipments including samples to and from Kaliningrad, which is a perfect match to our aircraft, says Christiansen.
DAT is now working to solve a range of pending issues including cargo handling of export shipments out of Kaliningrad, and may seek cooperation with "another carrier" to promote the cargo business.
The only other foreign carrier now operating at Kaliningrad is Polish LOT, while SAS suspended its flights after a brief period some years ago.
