SEP 09, 2003 (newstodate): On September 8, the runway reconstruction at Kazakhstan's Astana Airport was completed.
After four months of work, the airport now claims to be able to accept aircraft of all types, including cargo aircraft.
Work has now been started to update the airport lighting systems, and after a measurement of the airport, Astana hopes to become upgraded to CAT II, allowing for operations under more adverse weather conditions, and a higher rate of utilization.
