AUG 20, 2003 (newstodate): In the first three months of its fiscal year, April-June, Finnair Cargo saw its turnover down by five percent, to euro 28.6 million.
-Finnair Cargo made an operational loss at 1.8 million euro, compared to last year's profits at 0.2 million, says Timo Riihimkki, Finnair Cargo director cargo marketing.
No details on volumes were disclosed by the company.
According to Riihimkki, the negative results reflect the capacity cuts introduced by Finnair in the wake of the SARS in the Far East, which is a key region in Finnair Cargo's market.
-The market demand was there, but the capacity was not, says Riihimkki.
Finnair Cargo expects the volumes to pick up again from beginning of September, and Finnair's route network and frequencies in the Far East is now almost back to normal.
