AUG 14, 2003 (newstodate): In July, Gothenburg Airport's cargo volumes were down 15 percent, to a total of 3,406 tonnes.
During January-July, the total volumes were down by eight percent to 23,095 tonnes, after a constistently negative trend month by month.
The drop is driven primarily by a 23 percent fall in exports in July, and by 16 percent during the first seven months this year.
In july, air cargo exports constituted 55 percent of total volumes.
-We are, however, still optimistic as Polar Air has now introduced the Boeing 747-400F on its two weekly North Atlantic routes, and is about to add a third weekly flight on the new route Liege-Gothenburg in connection with the Polar route from Liege to Korea and Taiwan, says Bjrn Lennartz, Gothenburg Airport marketing manager.
Lennartz also hopes to see the Finnair Cargo freighter services to Europe and North America back again soon after their planned suspension during the summer period.
