AUG 26, 2003 (newstodate): While LOT Polish Airlines plans to start its new route with a Boeing 727-200 from Warsaw to Basra via Beirut on Wednesday, SAS har decided to suspend plans for its Copenhagen-Basra non-stop flight with a Boeing 767-300 aircraft, originally scheduled for Friday, August 29.
According to a SAS press spokeswoman, a delegation from SAS has been reviewing the operational and security-related issues during a visit to Basra last weekend, and the airline found security to be "satisfactory".
The airline has however decided to pull off the planned inauguration, going over the assessment once again in light of the over-all situation before announcing a new start-up date.
