AUG 08, 203 (newstodate): Air France Cargo is seeing bright prospects for growth in the Baltic region.
Through its cargo GSA, SkyPartners with headquarters in Tallinn, AF Cargo set up offices in Riga, Latvia, and Vilnius, Lithuania, in May after a road show in Riga and Vilnius for all major agents. Also through SkyPartners, the company has been present in Tallinn since 1997.
-The Baltic countries constitute an interesting market, although the consumption power is still comparatively low. But there is definitely a strong potential for air cargo in both imports and exports, says Mika Jantunen, Air France Cargo cargo manager Finland & Baltics.
As the Baltic countries and Poland are poised for EU membeship from next year, airline trucking to and from the Baltic region will be greatly simplified, boosting growth, Jantunen says.
Traffic between the Baltic countries and Western Europe on the so-called "Via Baltica" is currently much complicated by delays due to border controls on the Polish side.
