JUL 30, 2003 (newstodate): Kenya's Yomo Kenyatta Airport is targetted for an extensive upgrading and refurbishment to start soon.
The Sh 460 mio upgrade will allow the airport to significantly raise security levels as required by ICAO standards for Category 1 airports, and provide better facilities for airlines and customers.
After the refurbishment, all international flights will be handled at the airport's Unit Three offering extra safety and security measures to ensure that incoming and outgoing passenger streams are separated.
The airport, designed to accomodate 2.5 million passengers per year, currently handles some 3.2 million people a year.
