JUL 25, 2003 (newstodate): During the period September 2002 to May 2003, Uganda's flower exporters have experienced a virtual boost.
According to recent statistics, Uganda earned about 27 million US dollars from roses and chrysanthemum cuttings, up 25 percent on last year.
Behind the success are a range of factors including about 15 percent increase in production of roses, 5 percent increase in international prices, an improved exchange rate, not least, a drop by 10-12 percent in international air cargo rates.
Ugandan flower exports go primarily to Europe via Amsterdam, and are distributed heavily in Russia and the CIS region as well.
