JUL 25, 2003 (newstodate): Omar Benediktsson, Icebird´s president, and M. Thorsteinsson, Air Atlantas major shareholder, have taken over 33 percent of the shares in Icebird Airlines from three Icelandic Companies.
Mr. Benediktsson is thereby increasing his shares in the company, while Mr. Thorsteinsson makes his first entry into Icebird.
The relationship between Air Atlanta and Icebird may pave the way for a working relationship between the two companies.
Icebird was established in 1991 by the merger of Eagle Air Domestic and the airline Flugtak. The company leases out passenger- and freighter aircraft and operates certain domestic routes in Iceland with two Dornier aircraft.
Icebirds fleet has increased considerably during the last few years, now comprising 14 aircraft i.e. seven Boeing, five Airbus, and two Dornier aircraft.
