JUN 03, 2003 (newstodate): On June 2, the Icelandic company, Air Atlanta's subsidiary in the UK, Air Atlanta Europe was granted an Air Operators Certificate and an Operating Licence by the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
These, together with Route Licences approved by the Department for Transport, allow the new company to start commercial operations.
AAE is based at London Gatwick and will operate flights from Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow. It has three Boeing 767-200 aircraft with three Boeing 747-200s added to the UK register later this summer.
AAE is primarily a wet-lease operator supplying other airlines with extra capacity. It has contracts with Excel Airways and Virgin Atlantic and will also operate charter flights during the summer.
