JUN 26, 2003 (newstodate): The decision to reduce the network from the coming winter program will have a severe impact on the capacity available for sales by SWISS WorldCargo.
-Under the re-structuring plan, the long-haul fleet is to be reduced to 18 aircraft, and the medium-haul fleet to 21 aircraft. The impact of the reduction of the short-haul fleet to 35 units will be less significant, as we make limited use of the smaller European fleet, relying primarily on trucking to feed long-haul flights, says Bernd Maresch, SWISS WorldCargo.
-The plan comprising detials on which destinations will be cut will announced within thrre to four weeks, he says.
Mr Maresch also says that a new business plan for SWISS WorldCargo will be worked out for implementation by November. The plan will outline the change in strategy from pure sale of SWISS belly capacity to proposals for expansion and diversification aiming for growth and development of the company.
This will comprise more cooperation with freighter operators, and forms of partnership.
