JUN 20, 2003 (newstodate): Even Singapore Airlines has to reduce staff during the current crisis, announcing the redundancy of 1.2 percent of total staff at Singapore, or 414 people.
-We have always said that we would consider retrenchment as a measure of last resort. I am sad to say that we are now at that point. It is unfortunate, but there is no alternative if we are to ensure that the Company survives this downturn and position ourselves to compete effectively in the marketplace of the futuresaid Mr Chew Choon Seng, CEO, Singapore Airlines in a message.
Of the 414 people now made redundant, only four are in Singapore Airlines Cargo, though.
