JUN 02, 2003 (newstodate): Serbian airport Nis will re-open for traffic from August after immediately necessary repairs.
Norway has donated 4 million euro for the airport's reconstruction, while local authorities provide a further 530,000 euro.
After that, the first of two stages, worth 2.5 million and to be completed in the first half of 2004, will include repairing the damage caused by the 1999 NATO bombings, improving the airfield signal system and paving the tarmac.
In the second stage, worth 1.5 million and slated to be completed by the end of this year, the tarmac will be extended and widened.
Alongside Belgrade Airport, the airport in Nis is the only other airport in Serbia to handle passenger transport services.
