JUN 16, 2003 (newstodate): Effective from October 23, Finnair plans to start operating a new route from Helsinki to Miami during the winter.
The route will be served with a MD-11 aircraft till March 28, 2004.
-We can now direct our MD-11 capacity to Miami because demand on our Beijing route is not expected to support all the capacity planned earlier for the route during the winter, and our new route to Shanghai increases our capacity in China from last year, says Petteri Kostermaa, Finnair VP Network Strategy and Planning.
-We will fly to Miami next winter, but after the winter season we will be redirecting
capacity back to our Asian operations, which is in line with our long-haul strategy. We hope that by then demand in Asia which has been growing rapidly, will have returned to its normal levels, he says.
