JUN 04, 1003 (newstodate): Copenhagen Airport is seeing traffic from its low-cost operators growing at a fast pace.
This summer there will be 101 weekly departures from the airport by low-cost operators, almost double the volume during last year's summer program.
The significant growth is mainly due to the activities of the two new operators, Sterling and snowflake.
Out of the total scheduled traffic, low-cost operators now generate 3.6 percent, compared to 2.2 percent in 2002.
To seek new potentials for expanding and acocmodating the low-cost traffic, Copenhagen Airports recently announced its decision to survey conditions at Roskilde Airport, some 40+ km away and also operated by Copenhagen Airport, as to concentrating the low-cost traffic there rather than at Copenhagen Airport.
This would probably also produce new cost structures for the low-cost operators, and attract new companies.
Low-cost operators at Copenhagen Airport currently comprise easyJet, Iceland Express, Virgin Express, Sterling, and snowflake.
