JUN 01, 2003 (newstodate): 23,000 feet above Iceland and in the presence of 145 guests, Air Atlanta has signed a deal for six more Boeing 747 passenger aircraft.
Four of the aircraft have been bought from Cathay Pacific Aircraft Trading and two from Mido Aircraft Trading.
-The six aircraft are already flying as part of the fleet on lease purchase schemes. The terms of the leases were such that it was better to arrange a loan and pay for the aircraft than continue with the lease payments, says Hafthor Hafsteinsson, President and CEO, Air Atlanta Icelandic.
The deal was realised through two loan arrangements, one for three years and one for five years totalling US$16.67 million.
The company's fleet now comprises 16 Boeing 747s, including the aircraft above and the four freighters announced last month, three Boeing 757s and eight Boeing 767s. This summer there will be 11 bases in eight countries, Argentina, France, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Netherlands, Santo Domingo and United Kingdom.
