MAY 27, 2003 (newstodate): From June 1, the Kazakhstan company, Europe-Asia-Transit plans to introduce a freighter operation from Almaty to western domestic destinations Aktau and Atyrau.
The flights will be performed by an AN-26 aircraft lifting up to 5,500 kg of cargo.
Initially, the route will be operated once weekly, but increases are planned as market so demands.
The new route will servce a region of strategic importance in the oil and gas extracting and refining industries, as well as financial and administrative centers.
This, says the company, is only the first phase in a larger strategy and a plan, called "the silk road", intended to build up and increase the infrastructure in the region.
