MAY 21, 2003 (newstodate): In January-April, Oslo Gardermoen Airport's total freight volumes were up by 11 percent, to 16,622 tonnes.
International air cargo generated a total of 13,104 tonnes, up 26 percent on 2002. The cargo was almost evenly split on export and import.
International airfreight export, however, grew the most at 32 percent, to 6,852 tonnes.
This is primarily due to the export of Norwegian fresh salmon for Japan, now taken directly out of the airport on regular DC-10 freighter services by Aeroflot to Osaka, Japan.
This freight is not accounted for in the IATA CASS statistics that show a sustained drop in Norwegian air gargo exports during Q1.
