MAY 27, 2003 (newstodate): Icelandair Cargo is considering adding all-freighter capacity, spurred by signs of continued recovery in the air cargo market.
-We see growth in the market, and if imports will recover as have exports, we are looking seriously into adding either Boeing 757 or 767 converted freighter capacity, and a decision will be taken late this summer, says Petur Eiriksson, Icelandair Cargo president.
Icelandair Cargo currently operates one Boeing 757-200 freighter, and one boeing 737 freighter which was earlier planned to go last year already, but which has been retained.
According to Eiriksson, the 737 freighter operates from Keflavik for TNT to Liege every night, but when the lease term expires by March 2004, it will be turned to its owner.
