MAY 22, 2003 (newstodate): Russian carrier Aeroflot has seen a good performance during the first four months this year.
The airline transported 1.568 million passengers and lifted a total of 34,000 tonnes of cargo and mail, up 14.9 percent on the same period last year.
Despite the growth in traffic, revenues have not kept pace, however, due to the effect from the Iraq war and the outbreak of SARS.
To adjust for the changed market situation, Aeroflot has cut flights to Beijing from seven to four departures, and put the planned added capacity to Shanghai from June 22 on hold till further notice. Also Shanghai will be served by smaller Boeing 767 instead of the IL-96.
Hong Kong flights will be cut from five to three weekly flights, and the IL-96 capacity will instead be introduced on routes to London and Dusseldorf where the demand is high.
