APR 05, 2003 (newstodate): Kallax Cargo Airport has reached an agreement for marketing cooperation with Russian airport Khorol in eastern Siberia.
Khorol about 200 km from Vladivostok is the first privately owned airport in Russia. The airport owner also manages fuelling services at about 15 other Russian airports.
The two parties hope to see Khorol-Kallax via Arctica 1 becoming a new route for freighters between northern China and northern Europe, benefiting from shorter flying times on the lane between the continents.
The vision has become realistic as Russia recently opened the airspace for freighter traffic.
According to industry sources Lufthansa Cargo, Air France and Korean Air has already planned a total of 50 weekly flights on Arctica 1 while this has so far not resulted in demands for en-route technical stops.
