APR 14, 2003 (newstodate): Stockholm Arlanda's third runway becomes operational as from today.
Capacity at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport will gradually increase from todays 76 aircraft movements take-offs and landings per hour to 90.
Runway 3 is 2,500 m long and 63 m wide. The project began in the late 1980s with planning, applications for environmental permits and ground preparation. Ground work began in 1994 and construction in 1998. The runway was completed in December 2001 and was officially inaugurated by Swedens Crown Princess Victoria in May 2002
