APR 24, 2003 (newstodate): After having introduced the ATR-42 on its route between Billund Airport and Palanga, Air Lithuania is seeing potentials for an increased share of the air cargo market between Denmark and Lithuania.
The airline withdrew its last of four YAK-40 by April 1, replacing it with ATR-42, which features a large forward cargo door allowing for cargo dimensions comparable to those of a Boeing 737.
-We are currently working on a new cargo rates scheme to exploit the cargo capacity at app. one tonne with a cabin load factor around 60, says Frank Nielsen, Jetline, passenger and cargo GSA for Air Lithuania.
In Air Lithuania's congifuration the ATR-42 has a capacity of 46 passengers compared to the 21 passengers on the YAK-40. This also greatly enhances the airline's marketing efforts towards travel groups and leisure travellers, says Nielsen.
