MAR 05, 2003 (newstodate): Swedish manufacturing company, Volvo Aero has landed a contract with German MTU to provide engine components for the Airbus Superjumbo, A380, the company says.
Volvo Aero will develop and produce a component housing the engine's low pressure turbine.
The contract, worth around one billion Swedish Crowns over 15 years, will comprise delivery of components for 1,000 GP7000 engines still under development. The first component will be delivered by September 1, 2003, and serial production will start by 2005.
Volvo Aero is already engaged in the competing A380 engine project by General Electric.
