MAR 20, 2003 (newstodate): Singapore Airlines Cargo announces the implementation of a USD 0.25 pr kilo war surcharge on shipments, in addition to the increased fuel surcharge already announced.
It is understood, though, that this war surcharge will not apply universally, but on a region-to-region basis. Thus, Europe is currently not included.
The company warns that closure of parts of the M East airspace may induce diversions, longer flying times, and extra re-fuelling stops. This may lead to delays and deferred processing times for some shipments.
SIA Cargo also expects that diversion of flights may result in reduced belly cargo capacity on passenger aircraft due to needs for carrying extra fuel.
