MAR 28, 2003 (newstodate): On March 25, the Lithuanian parliament decided to support the US-led international operation in the Gulf Region with a contingent of 10 logistics specialists.
The main objectives of this mission are international operation support and humanitarian assistance.
-Two Lithuanian logistic specialists will be assigned specific tasks upon their arrival at the mission area. They will probably operate in Kuwait but the place of deployment may be changed as they might be deployed in another area of the rear. They will not take part in any military actions, says Ausra Vaitkeviciute, Public Information Officer, Ministry of National Defense of Lithuania.
Vaitkeviciute says the logistic specialists were trained for the Operation Enduring Freedom in Kirghizia. They were however not deployed as Kirghizia decided not to receive any forces of NATO member states or allies on its territory.
The Lithuanian logistic personnel have received full training in Denmark in aircraft cargo service related operations.
