MAR 04, 2003 (newstodate): The Finnish CAA plans to open a former cargo terminal at Tampere-Pirkkala Airport for use as passenger terminal for low-cost airlines.
The terminal's current use will expire by the end of this year, when it will be refurbished by CAA-subsidiary, Airpro, which will also provide all handling and other services for future passenger low-cost airlines.
The new service concept to be developed is the CAA's experiment to cope with new airline needs as to low cost operations.
Budget flights will significantly expand Tampere-Pirkkala Airports importance as a regional hub for transport and tourism. The new terminal will cater for 200 000 passengers in its first 12 months of operation.
