MAR 22, 2003 (newstodate): According to the latest statistics from Eurocontrol, total volume of flights was up 5.6 percent in February, proving that air traffic continues to pick up on 2002.
During the same month, the significant decrease in en-route delays is maintained with a 56.5 percent drop on last year's figures.
Thus, the average en-route delay per flight was 0.7 in February 2003, against 1.6 in 2002.
In February this year, 8.5 percent of all flights (totalling 607,980) were delayed compared to 11.4 percent last year, when total number of flights was 575,796.
-It is most encouraging to see that measures to improve air traffic management are bringing significant airspace capacity increases. However, we canot claim victory at this point, but reflect with satisfaction in this collective achiement, says Victor M Aguado, Eurocontrol director general.
