MAR 28, 2003 (newstodate): In 2002, The Danzas Group, Deutsche Post World Net's logistics subsidiary, increased earnings substantially over the previous year, the company says in its annual report.
With net sales essentially unchanged at EUR 9.152 billion (CHF 13.491 billion), EBITA rose from EUR 159 million (CHF 234 million) to EUR 224 million (CHF 330 million), an increase of 40.9 percent. The workforce grew slightly from 45,036 to 45,250.
Danzas Intercontinental's growing volumes of air and ocean freight did not result in higher sales figures, but the business unit contributed strongly to the group's positive results. Net sales fell by 3.6% to EUR 4.233 billion (CHF 6.240 billion) compared with EUR 4.390 billion/CHF 6.471 billion) in the previous year. Lower freight rates and fluctuating exchange rates caused this decline. Net sales fell more sharply in ocean freight (4.8%) than in air freight (1.3%).
