FEB 18, 2003(newstodate): Russian airline, Volga-Dnepr is planning to set up a new, independent cargo airline later in 2003.
Volga-Dnepr, which in 2002 handled a total of 55,000 tonnes of primarily out-size cargo, plans to operate two leased Boeing 747s targetting the $50 billion-a-year market for scheduled cargo flights.
The airlines fleet currently comprises nine AN-124, and three Il-76 aircraft.
By the start of 2002, 80 percent of Volga-Dnepr's cargo flights were to Afghanistan on behalf of international governments, though that had dropped to 7 percent by the end of the year.
