FEB 26, 2003 (newstodate): SWISS WorldCargo will not be affected by the drastic cuts in destinations, aircraft fleet and staff announced yesterday by the airline, says Bernd Maresch, SWISS WorldCargo general manager, Marketing Communication & PR.
-Intercontinental flights, destinations and aircraft fleet have not been reduced, and that is where the bulk of our cargo is carried, says Maresch.
According to Maresch, most European airfreight is carried on road feeder services into the SWISS hubs, and a decision has been taken not to reduce capacity on these services.
-As for destinations in Europe, including Eastern Europe, that have been reduced in capacity or stopped altogether, we will look into the situation market by market and increase road feeder services accordingly, Maresch says.
Maresch says the "very good" performance by SWISS World Cargo in 2002 has convinced the group management that no cuts in SWISS WorldCargo will be undertaken.
SWISS WorldCargo's 2002-results will be announced at a press conference on March 27.
