Copenhagen, FEB 03, 2003 (newstodate): The Norwegian Polar Institute is readying the Troll Runway, which will be the largest landing facility in the Antarctic at 72 degrees south.
Comprising a 3,300/100 m runway and built on one kilometer of solid ice, the landing facility will receive international approval by 2004, capable of handling even the world's largest airliners.
The landing facility will ease access of people and cargo supplies for international Antactic research stations that now rely mainly on connections by ship from South Africa.
