Copenhagen, FEB 02, 2003 (newstodate): ZIMBABWE Cargo Airlines (ZCA), a new local airfreight firm servicing regional and international destinations, will make its maiden flight with a trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in February, according to African online media AllAfrica.
ZCA managing director Edd Nyagura said the airline, which was formed last year, would fly from Harare to Kinshasa at the beginning of February.
The cargo airline will start off with weekly flights between Harare and Kinshasa at the beginning of February, in addition to weekly Harare-Dar-es-Salaam-Dubai flights and up to three flights between Harare and Amsterdam.
The company is leasing a Boeing 707 from a South African airline, and a DC10-30 from Belgium.
The regional routes will be operateds with the Boeing 707, which has a capacity to carry up to 35 metric tonnes of cargo, while the DC10, which has a capacity of 65 metric tonnes, will service the European route.
ZCA also has a Boeing 747 with a freight capacity of 90 metric tonnes on stand-by to service the European market once sufficient demand for its services is noted.
