FEB 21, 2003 (newstodate): Menzies World Cargo and the Icelandic transport and logistics provider, Eimskip will open "Freshport", a new joint venture perishables handling centre at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam in April.
Freshport's new 3,200 square metre handling centre will provide a full range of services for perishable cargo, such as fresh fish, meat products and ornamental fish. It will also incorporate an EU border inspection point (BIP).
The facility will have the capacity to handle 800,000 kilos of perishables at any time in dedicated cool, frozen or air conditioned storage units.
Menzies now handles more than 370,000 tonnes of cargo a year at Schiphol for over 50 airlines. It operates from a modern 450,000 square foot freight centre at the airport.
