Copenhagen, FEB 02, 2003 (newstodate): US Customs has set the date February 6th for comments on the imminent demands for electronic pre-manifestation of airfreight on US-bound aircraft.
Comments must be delivered via FIATA. The new requirements will be frozen in September, to take effect from December 2003.
It is known that US Cusotms will demand 8-12 hours pre-manifestation of airfreight shipments to or via USA.
FIATA has maintained that the demand will add hours, or even days to airfreight's total lead-times, detrimental to the needs for fast and competitive services.
FIATA also expects total transportation costs to increase.
