Copenhagen, FEB 06, 2003 (newstodate) Armenian Airlines has managed to obtain a temporary permit to operate an IL-86 on its daily fligths betweeen Zvartnots International Airport, Armenia, and its European destinations Paris, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt.
The route is normally operated with the airline's sole Airbus A310 that was forced to return to Zvartnots after a 20 minutes flight after an engine failure on January 21.
The aircraft is now out of service while the airline is struggling to find the means for financing the repair.
According to report in "Armenia Week", the Government aviation department has said it hopes to acquire another Airbus in March.
Meanwhile, Armenian Airlines is also facing tough problems with Russia, which temporarily closed its airspace to the airline's aircraft due to a debt of two million U.S. dollars for Russian ATC services.
Eventually, Armenian Airlines managed to have the Russian airspace partially re-opened after lifting 40,000 U.S. dollars off the debts.
